    • 2. Peugeot e-208
    • 3. BMW i3
    • 4. Fiat 500 Electric

    • 6. Vauxhall Corsa-e
    • 7. MINI Electric
    • 8. Honda e
    • 9. Mazda MX-30
      • Conclusion

A compact platform implies less room for batteries. Therefore the range of the following vehicles can never approach that of bigger competitors. However, a tiny battery implies a lower asking price; and if we’re talking about urban runabouts that only make larger trips on occasion, it’s doubtful how many owners would need more than, approx. 180 miles of the driving range.

Top 10 best small electric car in 2022

1. Skoda Citigo-e iV

Skoda Citigo-e iV - best small electric car

The Citigo-e iV is ideal for city residents looking for an easy-to-own, comfortable vehicle at a reasonable price and you can get car finance easily. Once you get beyond the initial purchase price, Skoda’s small EV’s low noise levels, fast urban performance, and low operating costs are strong selling points.

When Skoda’s parent company Volkswagen transitioned to EVs, it brought all its brands. Therefore, Volkswagen e-Up, Skoda Citigo-e iV, and SEAT Mii Electric are all extremely similar.

2. Peugeot e-208

Peugeot e-208

The all-electric 208 supermini is one of many PSA Group small EVs that will join the market in 2020, but it is the most affordable and aesthetically attractive. Suppose you’re looking for your first electric vehicle this year.

In that case, it deserves to be at the top of the list for its combination of good range, performance, affordability, practicality, style, perceived quality, and driver appeal.

3. BMW i3

The BMW i3 debuted in 2013, but it remains one of the most modern and futuristic-looking compact electric vehicles today. The current versions have a battery size of 120Ah, giving the standard i3 an official range of between 182-190 miles.

While prior models had smaller batteries with a range of between 80-100 miles. Something to think about if you want to purchase a used model.

4. Fiat 500 Electric

Fiat 500 Electric

Fiat’s model lineup is now rather perplexing since the old vehicle continues as the Fiat 500 Hybrid (despite only being a mild hybrid). On the other hand, the one you desire is the new electric 500. It may seem similar, but only when you compare them realise the new electric 500 is unique.

Fiat has done an excellent job of preserving the modern-day 500’s attractive classic appearance while modernising it. Because it was designed from the start to be a wholly electric vehicle, it features a very large (for a tiny car) 42kWh battery and a theoretical WLTP-lab-test range of 199 miles. However, this converts to more like 140 miles in real-world usage.

5. Volkswagen e-Up

Volkswagen e-Up

The new VW e-Up, with its greatly increased range, will be ideal for anybody who spends a lot of time in the city or makes frequent short trips and can charge at home. If you reside in a block of flats, you’re probably out.

The e-Up has a single standard specification, which implies fewer decisions. Climate control, heated seats and windshield, cruise control, a rear-view camera, alloy wheels, and smartphone connection are all standard. The inside is simple but appealing, and the e-Up EV  are greener than the petrol variant.

6. Vauxhall Corsa-e

Vauxhall Corsa-e

The Vauxhall e-208’s sister lacks the styling and stated WLTP range of its French counterpart and the creatively arranged cabin and lower price. Don’t let that discourage you if you think this Vauxhall isn’t worth a test drive. A little less flashy than the Peugeot, but no less appealing.

With a daily battery range of 180 miles and the capacity to charge at 100 kW direct current (DC) speeds, the car offers a great driving experience that’s sure to wow. In addition, Vauxhall provides a free home charger installation and a unique home energy tariff as a purchase incentive for its vehicles.

7. MINI Electric

MINI Electric

If you want to travel about town in style, the MINI Electric should be top of your list. The 184PS electric motor will get you to 62mph in a little over 7 seconds, and the all-at-once power delivery will make it seem even faster.

Image: Source

That’s just half the story since it’s not only the speed that makes the MINI Electric enjoyable to drive but also the handling. It’s not as refined as its combustion-engined sister, the MINI Hatch, but the tight body control and fast steering will make you happy.

8. Honda e

Honda e

The Honda e is the iPhone of automobiles. It’s tiny, pricey, and will need to be recharged frequently. EV buyers, though, will purchase it despite its shortcomings just because it is desirable – in large part due to its appearance.

Image: Source

It has an excellent combination of contemporary and vintage style so that youthful consumers will prefer it over, for instance, a Renault Zoe, despite its higher price and lower electric range.

9. Mazda MX-30

Mazda MX-30

Mazda has never been reluctant to go its way, even when the rest of the industry looks to be doing the opposite. As a result, the MX-30 isn’t exactly what you’d anticipate, but it’s still an interesting option.

Image: Source

The toy-car styling is wrapped around an exceptionally tiny battery pack – only 35.5kWh, offering an official range of 124 miles – since Mazda thinks customers won’t need any more, expanding the battery capacity would be a needless expenditure.

Conclusion

These small city vehicles are a wonderful combination of comfort, practicality, and value for money, not to mention some of the cheapest electric cars available. They’re perfect for zipping about towns and cities, with their small size making them easy to park and low running costs. Electric vehicles are free from the daily ULEZ payment in London. So, if you primarily travel about town and don’t require much room, these are the finest small electric vehicles for city driving.
